PRCA Race & Ethnicity Equity Board appoints Emmanuel Ofosu-Appiah as Vice Chair

Emmanuel Ofosu-Appiah has today been appointed Vice Chair of the PRCA’s Race and Ethnicity Equity Board (REEB).

Emmanuel joined REEB in January 2021 and currently leads the ethnic men in PR and social mobility work stream. He is a leading voice on the topic of diversity and inclusion in PR and is passionate about creating long-term change to ensure diverse talent can thrive within public relations. Emmanuel is a strong supporter of REEB’s Ethnicity Pay Gap guide and vocal about increasing the amount of Black men in senior positions in corporate communications. During his career, he has mentored and supported many professionals from diverse backgrounds to help secure roles in the PR industry.

Outside of his role as Acting UK PR Lead at Mercer, he currently serves as Board Member for the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Black Business Association, a member of the UK Black Comms Network, and is Board Member of South Quay College. Emmanuel also recently gained a qualification from the University of South Florida Muma Business College focusing on Diversity and inclusion within the workplace.

REEB Chair Barbara Phillips FPRCA, said:

“This week is Race Equality Week and Emmanuel exemplifies why we need an annual reminder that racial equality along with gender and social mobility can’t be taken for granted. We should never forget that most of us intersect across at least three protected characteristics where race is the foundation. Appointing Emmauel as Vice Chair of REEB sends a message to Black, Asian, Mixed Race and ethnically diverse men that your voice is as important as anyone else’s especially in the ongoing battle to achieve greater racial equality in our industry.”

REEB Vice-Chair Emmanuel Ofosu-Appiah MPRCA said:

“I am proud to take on this new role of Vice Chair of the Race and Ethnicity Equity Board. I’d like to thank the board for their support and vote of confidence.

“As Race Equality Week begins, I am encouraged by the progress we have made through our Ethnicity Pay Gap report and our PRISM mentoring scheme. We want to see visible, equitable representation among senior decision makers. I am personally committed to ensuring that more Black men like myself can occupy senior roles and thrive. I look forward to working with Barbara and the REEB members to create meaningful change.”

About REEB
Founded in July 2020, the PRCA Race and Ethnicity Board (REEB) is a Standing Committee of the PRCA that exists to create both immediate and long-term proportional racial equity within the PR and communications industry. Its purpose is to ensure the PRCA – as well as the broader PR industry – adopts a best practice approach to ethnic and racial inclusion. Since its launch, REEB has published a free Ethnicity Pay Gap guide and most recently launched a mentoring scheme, PRISM, to provide meaningful support to Black, Asian and ethnically diverse professionals.
